More Information on the Practice

Keeping to time

Please let us know if you need a longer consultation. Book a double consultation for:

Requests for Results:

The administration staff only have limited access to patients’ medical records.  Your Doctor will advise you when your results should be available.  Please call the surgery and our administration staff will advise you if further follow up is required.  Our practice policy is that patients need an appointment to discuss abnormal results.

The doctors at Kirwan Family Practice also use an innovative addition to their clinical software system known as 'Doctors Control Panel' (DCP). This is an online secure way for patients to see their results with their GP's explanatory comments. This empowers our patients and helps them self manage their health. In the event of a clinically significant result, you will be contacted as soon as possible to make a follow up appointment to discuss the results with your doctor.

Please ensure that you advise us of any change to your contact details.

Interpreting Service:

We use the telephone interpreting service (TIS). Please let the receptionist know if you require a translater during your consult.

Medical Certificates:

Medical certificates are legal documents. To provide a certificate, the doctor must see the patient for condition requiring time off work. It is illegal to backdate a medical certificate.

Results of investigation:

Our doctors will provide a brief comment on your pathology test results. You can obtain this information by calling the practice 1 week after the test was done.
If you require further details about pathology results, please book an appointment with your doctor.

Reminder System:

Our practice is committed to preventive care.  Your doctor will seek your permission to be included on our reminder system.  We may issue you with  a reminder notice from time to time offering you preventive health services appropriate to your care.  If you do not wish to be part of this system, please let your doctor or reception know.

Parking:

There is on-site parking available in the Complex.

Disabled Access

The Complex has a ramp for wheel-chair access located at the front of the practice.

Arriving at the Surgery

On arrival, please report to Reception.  If you think that you or your child may have an Infectious Disease, or if you are too ill or distressed to sit in the waiting room, please advise the receptionist. Late arrivals may delay other appointments. Please don't be offended if we re-schedule your appointment for a later date.

Delays

It is important for us to be on time for our patients.  We realise that you often have other obligations, and so encourage you to ask the receptionist when you arrive what your waiting time is estimated to be.  If the Doctor is running late, it is probably the result of an emergency, and we appreciate your patience in this matter.  Reception staff will endeavour to ring you and advise you if there is going to be an exceptionally long delay in seeing your doctor.  We have also introduced a whiteboard which will advise of any significant delays.

Home Visits

Home visits are available to regular patients who live in the local area.  Should you require a home visit, please ring and talk to our Reception staff who will discuss the situation and make the appropriate arrangements.

Children

The surgery has secure and gated a play area along side the waiting room for the children.

Any child aged 15 years and under is bulk billed for consultations.

Referrals

Kirwan Family Practice provides comprehensive and continuous care in all aspects of medicine, however there are instances when a referral to a Consultant/Specialist Doctor is required.  Your Doctor will discuss this with you.  An appointment is required for all referrals.

Please book an appointment with your doctor if you require a refferal letter

Prescriptions

Most prescriptions provide enough medications to last until your condition needs to be reviewed by the doctor. A consultation will usually be nessacary when you need repeat prescriptions, particularly if you have not seen the doctor for 3 or more months. In exceptional circumstances (example: Lost script) a request for a repeat prescription can be left with the reception. Please allow two (2) working days for the script to be provided. Please ensure you have sufficient medication before leaving the surgery.
